Denise J. Brown on Buffalo, Big Deals, and Black Music
This week on Mixed and Mastered, I'm talking with Denise J. Brown — entertainment attorney, dealmaker, and a force whose career has shaped the business behind the music.
A Buffalo native and classically trained pianist, Denise started on Wall Street working alongside Reginald Lewis on the historic Beatrice International buyout before pivoting to entertainment law. She made partner at Mayer, Katz, Baker, Leibowitz & Roberts, then got tapped by Warner Bros. as Senior Vice President to restructure their record division — signing and developing award-winning artists along the way.
Honored by ASCAP as a "Woman Behind the Music," inducted into the BESLA Hall of Fame, and recognized as a "living legend" by the Living Legends Foundation, Denise is now an ordained minister, principal of Oikeo Corporation, and a professor at NYU's Clive Davis Institute and Marymount Manhattan College.
This is Mixed and Mastered with Denise J. Brown.
